Most candle warmers are designed to disappear. This one is designed to be looked at. The shade is a fluted glass flower, and the ridges do something the plain cylindrical shades cannot: they break the light into a soft petal pattern that lands on the wall behind the lamp. Switched off it is an ornament; switched on it is the most interesting thing on the shelf.
It is also the tallest lamp in our range at 38 cm, which solves the most common complaint about candle warmers. Large three-wick jars — the ones people are given at Christmas and then never quite finish — often will not fit under a short warmer. There is up to 19 cm of clearance here, so the big jar goes underneath without being tilted or balanced on anything.
Underneath that flourish it is a straightforward, well-judged warmer. Two 50 W bulbs are supplied, one to fit and one to keep. A wired controller runs four brightness levels, which is really four melting speeds, and a timer set to 2, 4 or 8 hours. The square wooden base is heavier than it looks, which matters when you are sliding a full 500 g candle underneath a 38 cm lamp.
The weight is worth a note. At 1.5 kg it is solid rather than delicate, and it wants a stable surface with a socket within reach — a chest of drawers, a hall console, a wide shelf. It is not a lamp for a crowded bedside table, and the fluted shade deserves better than being knocked.

Will a big three-wick Yankee-style jar fit under it?
Yes — that is the main reason to choose this one. At full height there is roughly 19 cm of clearance, which takes the large jars that shorter warmers cannot. It also drops to about 8.9 cm for small tins and dishes of melts.
What does the flower shade actually do?
The fluting breaks the light into a soft ribbed pattern that falls on the wall behind the lamp, so it decorates the room rather than just lighting the candle. It also gives the lamp a shape that stands up on its own when it is switched off.
How does a candle warmer work?
A warm bulb above the candle melts the surface of the wax. The fragrance oils lift out of the liquid layer into the room, the wick is never lit, and switching the lamp off lets the wax set flat again.
Is the scent as strong as burning the candle?
Usually stronger and steadier, because a flame burns off some of the fragrance along with the wax. Turn the brightness up to fill a room quickly, or down for a gentle background scent.
Does the candle get used up?
Very slowly. The wax is not being burned, so only the fragrance evaporates — a candle that lasted a fortnight of evenings on a flame can last months in a warmer.
Where should I put it?
On a stable surface with a socket in reach, and with space around it — a chest of drawers, a console table or a wide shelf. At 38 cm and 1.5 kg it is too big for a crowded bedside table.
Can I leave it running overnight?
That is what the 8 hour timer is for. Nothing is alight and the lamp switches itself off, so the room can still smell of the candle when you fall asleep.
Is it safe around children and pets?
There is no flame, which is the usual reason people switch, but the shade and bulb area get hot in use. Keep it out of reach and let it cool before you move it.
Does it work with wax melts?
Yes. Put the melts in a shallow heatproof dish, bring the shade down towards its lowest setting so the bulb sits close, and they melt as they would over a tealight burner.
Can it rescue a tunnelled candle?
It is very good at that. It warms the entire surface rather than just the middle, so the ring of wax stuck around the edge melts back down over a session or two.
Is it bright enough to read by?
No. The light aims down into the candle and the lamp is meant as decoration and warming, not illumination.
What bulbs does it take?
A 50 W warming bulb, with two supplied so you have a spare. Bulbs are a consumable part of any candle warmer.
